Like literature, film can make an argument. In this case, you saw three films from the 50s that portrayed women in a very specific way. Considering the three films (SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, ATTACK OF THE 50FT WOMAN and REAR WINDOW), make an argument that a) synthesizes the three main women in each film and b) touches on the representation of women in the 50s.
In 1950s, the most common representation of the women were housewives and had less social life then men did. In the movies of Splendor in the Grass, Attack of the 50ft Woman and Rear Window, each main woman represented individual woman character in 1950s and early 1960s. The society was a somehow a hand that pulled woman back to where they belong to. The women were often went nuts by not getting what they desired.
In the beginning of the movie Splendor if the Grass, Deanie Loomis was a high school student that had a boyfriend, Bud Stamper. There were kisses, touches and hugs between her and Bud, but she tried to be a good girl cross not to cross the line when Bud wanted to. Ginny was Bud's older sister. She went art school in Chicago, but was having an relationship with a man that she was unmarried to and was ended up sent back home. Ginny was considered as the flapper. The flapper was like a style of new generation that existed during the Great Depression in 1920s. Flappers were women who followed fashion, wore short skirt, cut hair short, went to parties and flirted with men. Bud wanted to have sexual relationship with Deanie, but Deanie was too well-behaved to take it. And Bud ended up to have have a sexual relationship with another girl which drove Deanie crazy. Deanie was mental ill till the someone asked her to go to school dance. She cut her hair short and tried to behave like a flapper. She went up to Bud and asked him to have a sexual relationship with her. Bud was surprised and rejected her. She went back to the water fall to commit suicide that where many couples made out included her and Bud. Later she was sent to a hospital to fix her mental illness and had fell in love with a man who worked there. And Bud was married to a girl he met in a Pizzeria and had babies.
In the Attack of the 50ft Woman, Nancy Archer was a rich women. She was once divorced to Harry Archer, but was back together again. Harry was cheating on Nancy with a girl named, Honey Parker. After Harry got home, he was trying the pack up and leave but the house keeper stopped him. They had a fight. The housekeeper called police to find Nancy. Later Nancy was found next to the swimming pool on top of the roof. Doctors found weird blue-color marks on Nancy's neck.
